Desperate Dan   Has anybody else noticed how BAD the food outlets connected with the IOM Government are? National Sports Centre; Calf Sound Cafe; Ronaldsway Airport Cafe - probably more besides......... all getting very poor comments. What does this tell us?  14/05/2010  Post a Reply
pepperpot   It's not so bad in some places - I've recently had good food at the Grove and Cregneash tearooms but the menu isn't as extensive as it used to be. The deterioration at the Sound is a travesty. It must be dependent on the staff at each venue  04/08/2010
Desperate Dan   But it's MNH, Hospital, NEC, Airport that are patronised by visitors as well as locals. The poor standards do the island's reputation no good, so ultimately the Government is to blame for poor tendering and penny-pinching! A very short-sighted attitude.  15/06/2010
Deepest South   Government Financial Directions require these to be put out to tender, and contracting out also keeps the Government headcount down. Don't blame Noble's, MNH etc - they have no choice!  12/06/2010
Coco   As far as I can tell they're all franchised by 'D's Leisure' http://www.dsleisureltd.com, owned by a Mr. K. Dobson, then sub-let, which in reality means employing a chef under regulations that are already put in place by existing management.  23/05/2010
Coco   Good point. Especially since all MNH food outlets are now under the same management franchise 'D's Leisure.' While this may allow MNH greater control, it doesn't really encourage entrepreneurialism or particularly high standards judging from reviews.  20/05/2010
Desperate Dan   Hi emmdee. Yes they are franchised, but does nobody check on them? If so the contracts would not be renewed, surely! I forgot to include Noble's Hosp in my original post. They are all appalling.  19/05/2010
emmdee   I thought that all the Govt food outlets were put out to tender and run by private companies/individuals? Nobles hospital is!  19/05/2010
manxbrummie   That's interesting. Perhaps the IoM Govt feel that catering is secondary to the primary reason to visit these venues. It's a bit Marie Antionettish, but it should be addressed.  15/05/2010
