DINE WITH A DIFFERENCE AT A GRELHA
The Gun, Docklands
A Grelha, London’s most anticipated alfresco grill, has re-opened at the award-winning Docklands pub, The Gun for the summer.
With sweeping riverside views on a south facing decked terrace, A Grelha will bring you an authentic taste of the Algarve from a menu inspired by owners Tom and Ed Martin and their memories of many visits to Southern Portugal.
In keeping with other traditional Portuguese restaurantes, the focus of A Grelha is fish and shellfish. Handpicked daily from Billingsgate Market, diners can take their pick from the counter, including whole sea bass, red snapper, dourado (golden bream) or Portuguese sardines in sea salt. While you watch and wait for it to be cooked in front of you on the huge charcoal barbecue, sit back and enjoy a delicious starter such as Portuguese salt cod croquettes with aioli, shrimp and prawn balls with a mustard mayonnaise or sizzling queen scallops, chorizo and garlic.
Must-try mains include cataplana, a rustic Algarvian seafood stew, served in a copper pot of the same name, or for the carnivores amongst us, enjoy classics such as spicy chicken piri piri, or a hanging skewer of marinated lamb espetada. Divine desserts are equally tempting and include authentic pastel de nata (custard tart), chocolate mousse or strawberries and cream.
To accompany these delicious dishes, the outdoor bar serves a carefully chosen selection of Portuguese and Mediterranean wines, chilled beers on draft including Super Bock and Sagres, as well as fruity red and white sangria.
Whether it’s for a casual catch-up or drink after work, stylish outdoor dinner for two or the ultimate party for 200, gather friends and family and head down to A Grelha.
