Twitter - There's No Escape!

Valentines Day - Too Much Choice? The 14th of February is now a well established date for the diary with many diners and Where's Good to Eat invariably has a "spike" in activity preceding it. Whenever there is pressure on eating out, sites like Where's Good to Eat come into their own because of the need to find new venues, particularly among those of us who are less well organised when it comes to early booking. At times like this, the amount of information on Where's Good to Eat can be a problem because we don't provide a "ranking" system. Such systems are usually either for 'gourmet' diners or are 'tick box exercises' designed to weed out obvious problem venues. In neither case do they address the diverse and subjective nature of eating out. What one diner may find appalling, another may find quirky and interesting. We believe that only by looking, in detail, at what someone says about a venue and comparing it with other comments, both theirs and those made by others about the same place, can a view be taken on whether somewhere is right for you. Where's Good to Eat provides the tools, in the form of links, to achieve this. Recently, we have also added a text search facility which enables you to search across all comments for key words and phrases, in a similar way to Google. Keying in words such as "great" or excellent", possibly accompanied by a favoured dish or food type, will return a list of establishments and comments, in date order, latest first. As with any text search, it is by no means foolproof but it can reveal some interesting options that you may not otherwise have considered. Twitter on WGTE Periodically at Where's Good to Eat we are criticised for not providing the facility for open 'discussion' of the type found on online Forums. This generally arises following publication of a comment which someone disagrees with strongly. Where's Good to Eat has always been about building a coherent database to support opinions, rather than providing a platform for online publication, but we do see the value in the latter. The obvious solution was, therefore, to provide a Twitter site, linked to Where's Good to Eat, which we have now done. We hope this new link will provide our users with the appropriate tools with which to have their say on what we are, or are not, doing. Only time will tell. |
